The cream of the South Island darts players contested the South Island championships at Nelson last month. The women's singles title went to Avis Gayford, North Otago (bottom left), and the men's singles to Allen King (Mosgiel), who was also in the team which won the men's pairs.

Nelson representatives in the ladiea' pairs were Ethel Hippolite and Ann Mant.

A new contest at this tournament was a mixed pairs for husband and wife. Winners of this event were another Mosgiel pair, Maureen and George Quennell.

Men's pairs winners were Henry Driver and Allen King of Mosgiel. King also won the singles. He lost his first two games but then won nine consecutive games to retain his title.

Mixed pairs winners were Frank Tomlin and Connie Cook.

Looking very pleased with themselves are ladies' pairs winners, Nonie Smith and Janet Heads.
South Island men's and women's teams to play the North Island were announced during the tournament. Pat Mahuika gained selection in the men's team and E. Hippolite won a position in the women's team. Congratulations to both.
