"I've got a luvverly bunch of coconuts, and lemons, and oranges, and spuds and goodness-knows-what-other-veges," so could sing these two well-known chaps, Roy Savage and Noel Jacques, shop assistants at Bairds. Roy has been with the firm for 22 years. He's lived at Richmond all his life and we're sure he must know, and be known by, thousands of Nelsonians. Roy began his working life in the boot trade and later tried his hand as an orchardist before joining Bairds. His leisure time passion is bowls, and he's a keen member of the Richmond Club. Noel lived in Marlborough for his first 23 years and has been at Bairds for four years. Before that he had been a grocer and in the insurance business. He has been a keen sportsman and until two or three years ago played for Toi Toi-United junior grade. He's also been a representative hockey player and a golfer.

Bert Smith and Les Sangster are always getting the boot. And when they've finished with it, it's a much better boot. They're boot and shoe repairers and trade under that well-known Nelson firm of Smith Bros. Bert is a third generation Smith, his grandfather establishing the business in 1908. He's carried on the trade for 30 years. He used to be a keen cash cyclist and later an administrator. He's now keen on shooting and gardening. Les now owns the business and has been a shoe repairer for 27 years. His hobbies are shooting and raising old English game birds.

Meet Les Gals, Henrietta McLean, Beverley Lacey and Marie Aydon, the staff of the Chez Eelco. Henrietta has been at the Chez for eight months. She was originally from Te Kuiti. Her hobbies are horse-riding and (believe it or not) restoring old couches. Beverley is cook at the Chez, and comes from Waimate and has been in Nelson nearly a year. She's single, likes music and cooking. Marie is married with four children (two of each), and has lived here all her life. Her outside interests are cooking, gardening and music.
