The weir, in the lower reaches of the Maitai River, has been the subject of discussion by the Harbour Board and City Council of late, and no time has been lost in implementing a decision that it should be built up. We photographed work on the weir on Saturday morning at the end of last month.

There has been a little heartburning over the decision of the Ministry of Works to demolish this very old home in Nayland Road, but after inspecting the old building we felt any possibility of restoration, without tremendous financial outlay, was out of the question. The old home, with its 18 inch sod walls, was built in the 1850's.
