Sportsman of the Month
Ngaire Muncaster
The basketball season is drawing to a close and so also is the service that Mrs Ngaire Muncaster has given to the Nelson Basketball Association as its president for the last eight years. Mrs Muncaster says she will not stand for the office next year, but will serve basketball in some other capacity. This is not surprising, for Ngaire has given a lifetime of service to the sport she represented with distinction, She began playing in Southland where she became a second grade representative at 14. Upon returning to Nelson she went into the representative team while still at Nelson College for Girls. Except for a break of four years during the war when she was in the army, Ngaire represented Nelson until she retired in 1949. She has been a "natural" sportswoman, having also represented Nelson in indoor basketball for about 10 years, table tennis, tennis, swimming and marching where, as leader of the Arawa team, she was judged champion New Zealand leader in 1948.
Ngaire Muncaster, a sportswoman with a very distinguished active and administrative record.
