The Shortest Day

In startling contrast to our cover pics this month is this picture, also of Nelson, but taken on the shortest day of the year. Hardy types these broadcasting blokes. From 6 a.m., by the light of a kerosene lantern, Ken Pritchard, Kerry Stevens and Hank Been (technician) relayed the breakfast session from Tahunanui Beach. Kerry even had a dip – but it was a mighty quick one, for the temperature, as can be gauged from this pic, was below freezing point.
