Bavarian Night at the Wakatu

Music, songs and beer flowed freely at a Bavarian Night at the Wakatu Hotel, recently. There's no denying that the Bavarian maid, Paula Ryan (Miss Rose of Tralee, 1969), a promotions officer with Bavarian Breweries, was an added attraction. Only a small proportion of the large crowd wore Bavarian costumes but no one seemed to mind. The beer probably tasted the same, regardless of attire.

Olympic athlete Rod Dixon, who's off to Munich soon, was quick to make friends with Paula Ryan, as was Tim Varley, who will be at the Munich games as a spectator.

And here's to it, from a suitably attired couple: Marge and Cliff Griffin

Now this is more like it: Having a swingin' time were Mark Duerden, Bernice Dixon, Sharon Larconde, Christine Duerden and Kathy and Jack Kitchen. At the back are Cliff Milnes, South Island sales manager of N.Z. Breweries, and Paula Ryan. (Hmmm).

The boys from Newmans were there: Bruce Moroney, Graham Watson, Ross Williams (publican), Don Johnstone and Bill Cooper
