Clothing Industry For Nelson
Men's T-shirts and women's panties are being made and packed in Lane Walker Rudkin's new factory in Bolt Road, Tahunanui. A staff of 30 is employed at present but this could increase to 60 as the factory expands. Two ladies, Mrs Margaret Tait and Miss Gwen Mayer of Christchurch are managing the factory until a permanent manager is employed. Both women said the standard of work and rate of output of the relatively inexperienced staff were excellent. Some of the employees had spent a training period in Christchurch and were now passing on this knowledge. The future expansion of the factory would mean other lines being manufactured.
Neat rows of tables, sewing machines and concentrated activities are first impressions gained on entering the factory
