These two happy characters are Max Thomas, a 'dozer driver, and Kevin Busch, a bushman, who work for contractor T. D. Thomas, Richmond, Just a week before we took this pic, Max was married in Australia, and he brought his bride back to live in Richmond, where he's lived all his life. His main hobbies are pool and darts, Kevin is 20, and single, and has lived in Nelson most of his life. Like Max, he was educated at Waimea College and his interests include pool and stock car racing

Cliff Saxton, a surveyor with Staig and Smith, is a happy man. His wife has just presented him with his fifth child. Congrats, Mr and Mrs S! Cliff has been a surveyor for 17 years and has lived all his life in Nelson. He has a great sporting background, ranging from athletics to representative Rugby, but today he is more interested in darts, pool, gardening and the family.

Meet Florence Chapman, wife of the proprietor of the Montgomery parking area. Florence has five boys and has lived in Nelson all her life. Watching soccer, reading, and knitting are her main hobbies.

Assisting Cliff Saxton were these two hard cases, David Smith and Mark McDonald, surveyors' assistants. Both are single. David was educated at Rutherford High School, Auckland, and has been with Staig and Smith for 18 months. His interests: a beer or two, a girl or two and vocalising (our interpretation). Mark is 16 and has been with the firm six months. He came to Nelson from Havelock 10 years ago and now lives at Richmond. His interests include Rugby, shooting and water skiing.

Doreen Booth and Margaret Sharland are shop assistants at the La Mouette take-away shop. Doreen is married, has four children and has lived in the district all her life. Her interests: flat out with feet up, knitting and sewing. Margaret has five daughters and lived on Gentle Annie until she married. Knitting and indoor bowls are her major interests.
