Comings and Goings

Nelson lost the family of Ken and Mary Barnes recently. Ken, who ran a taxi in Nelson, is taking the family to Ettrick (Central Otago) to join his father in a hotel-farming business. Mary was a teacher at St. Joseph's Convent. The children, from left, are Jenny, Jamie, Suzanne and Trudy.

New arrivals are Kelvin and Pat Barkman, and children, Kerrie, Tina and Jo-Anne. They come from Dunedin. Kelvin is construction foreman with Highways Construction.

"We've been ail over New Zealand but decided to settle in Nelson. The people here are the friendliest and the climate the closest to Queensland." So said Mr Selina Kennedy, who, with her husband, Graham, and children Bob, Susan, Jim and Danny (back), and Graham, Leone and Garth, have settled in Nelson. Graham is a sheet metal worker. They're from Queensland.

Rugby in the district will benefit from the arrival in Nelson of Calvin Cochrane, a Canterbury representative side row forward, who has joined the staff of the Ministry of Works. Just after his arrival here he learned of his success in completing his B.E. degree at Canterbury University. His father Alan is a former Canterbury representative wing three-quarters.
