South Island Tennis Titles

New Zealand Davis Cup representative O. Parun recovered from a bad lapse of form in the final of the South Island men's singles championship to beat American Bill Tym by 3 sets to 2. Parun won the first set 9-7, lost the next two 5-7, 4-6, but won the last two comfortably, 6-2, 6-3. The championships were played on the Rutherford Park courts (Above). Later Parun combined with Tym to take the doubles title. Tym's wife, Alice, also was very successful, winning the singles title, and the doubles, with Miss M. Pryde (Wellington).

"That's that," says Parun, as he scores the winning point in the singles final.

"Terrific game," say Wakefield boys, Jeffrey Vessey and Kenneth Davis, as they finish a quick knock-up in a very unofficial game.
