Some people have cushy jobs. Others, like Agriculture Department apiarist Jack Varley have bee-awful jobs - full of the stings of outraged bees. But Jack loves his job and was soon on the job when a swarm of bees took over the back yard of the Hotel Nelson. Donning protective clothing (he's been stung too often for safety), Jack gently chided the bees, found the queen and soon had the majority of bees boxed, A little huff on his smelly puffer (Right) helped them quieten down. A beeeautiful job. Jack.

Holiday time in Nelson would not be quite the same without The Great Benyon to entertain parents and children alike ("same man, different clothes"). The back beach open theatre was packed for his first performance and as usual he turned on a great show.
