Budding Chefs

Pupils of Nelson Intermediate School work in clubs, once a week. There are 22 clubs available. but for the boys, one of the most popular is the cooking club. There are 24 boys in the club (the maximum possible), but 150 applied for tuition. We visited the boys' cooking' class recently and found them all busy as beavers. Sitting down to a meal (above) which they cooked themselves are Gary Thomas, Roger Bennett, Brent Wright, Trevor Scott, Gordon Richmond, Neville Scott, Kevin Jennens, George Gibbs, and Glen Miller. Steak, eggs, sausages and chips seemed to be the favourite foods.

Cornish pastie enthusiasts, Robert Westrupp and Donald Hughes, seem a little doubtful about the result, but in "the proof of the pastie" no doubts were left.

The club's activities don't stop with cooking. The boys do their own ironing and washing, and that's what Alister Mackay

The worst part of the cooking is washing up, but Maurice Ward, Neville Craze and Peter Schwass get to it with a will.
