A useful act of public service was performed recently by members of the Tainui Sea Scouts group. When it was noticed that the varnished flag-pole on the Civic Chambers was in need of attention, the scouts offered to take down the pole, re-varnish it, and put it back again in its place on the front of the building. Boys bringing back the rehabilitated pole are seen.

The canine aristocracy of the district gathered at the showgrounds recently for a ribbon parade, when Mr F. Leach, Hastings, judged entries. Mrs M. A. Johansen with her "Raleigh Streamliner," winner of the puppy stakes under 12 months.
