Ambassadors From Gisborne

This week members of the Gisborne Salvation Army Band are touring the South Island, giving concerts in a number of major centres. The night before they left last week, they gave a farewell concert in the Citadel here, when good wishes for their tour were extended by the Mayor, Mr H. H. Barker, the Member for the District, Mrs Esme Tombleson, and the Gisborne Public Relations Officer, Mr David Clarke.

The concert was a most enjoyable one, and under the baton of Mr A. Stein, the band demonstrated the high standard which it has developed. Their playing of the selections "British Melodies" and "Negro Spirituals", among other items, evoked the admiration of all present, and should compare more than favourably with that of bands in the districts they are visiting.

During its tour the band will not only be dispensing good music...it will also be distributing a handsome brochure and programme advertising the merits of the Gisborne district.
