Learning to Shear

Five solid days on the shearing floor were put in by 12 young men at a learner-shearers' school, at Muriwai recently. The school was held at the Muriwai property of Mr F. E. Faulkner, and by the time it was finished, the expert instruction given by Wool Board teachers Sam Leech, Whangara, and H.J. (Red) Fleming, Te Karaka, resulted in preliminary certificates being issued to all 12 pupils. Some had a goodly margin of points to spare.

The course taught the recommended methods of the Wool Board, along with the care and setting of the shearing gear.
