Needle Paintings
Among the more unusual works of art to be found in Gisborne are these "needle paintings" by the late Mrs F. R. Bould, who died last year. Rich in colour and delicate in workmanship, these remarkable pictures were created on pure linen with stranded tapestry wools, and, of course, great skill, patience, and artistic ability. These, and many others not shown, were made by Mrs Bould after she was over the age of 70 years. They are now in the possession of her daughters, Mrs S. E. Wilkes, Stout Street, and Mrs W. Robertson, Maclean Street. Picture at right is portion only of a study of redwood trees; the others are of woodland scenes.
