It was like old times at Darton Field for Mr George Nicholls, veteran pilot of World War I and the pioneering days of flying on the East Coast, when a Gipsy Moth flew into the drome the other day. Built about 1928-9, the old Gipsy Moth was as airworthy as ever, and Mr Nicholls readily accepted an invitation to take it up. This particular plane, it was said, was once owned by the Duchess of Devonshire. Above, the plane is seen taking off, with Mr Nicholls and the Aero Club instructor, Mr Peter Kearins, aboard. At right: Veteran pilot and veteran plane.
