50-Mile Road Race

K. Atkins, Hastings, won the Gisborne Cycling Club's recent 50 mile open race, with L. Cook, Napier, second and Neil Robinson, a Gisborne junior, in third place.

Cook was unlucky in that he punctured at one stage. He repaired the damage and was still in the running, finishing only 200yds behind the winner. He took senior fastest time, riding off the scratch mark. Robinson took junior fastest time.

Pictures were taken half a mile after the start, on the hill at the northern end of Wainui Beach.
