Young Golfers

Golf has sometimes been criticised as a "selfish" game. Certainly it is a highly individual game. But on the credit side it has some wonderful virtues. It is a life-time game which can be played and enjoyed almost from the tricycle to the wheel-chair. It develops fine points of measured skill and talent. It is played "in the country", and is therefore ideal for city dwellers. It provides unique opportunities for social contact. And it requires players to walk long distances, which is all to the good in an age when walking is almost a forgotten exercise.

Here on this page are two groups of youngsters who are setting out on the golfing way at an early age. They are far more competent at the game than their age would suggest, as some of their scores indicate....a 39 for the first nine holes (only three over par), 43, 46, 49 and 51...figures of which many an adult would be proud. The pictures were taken at Awapuni course on the occasion of the recent tournament for school-age boys and girls.
