"The Comps"

One of the most successful yet, was the verdict of all concerned in the Gisborne Competitions Society's forty-second "Annual Festival of Talent", held in the Opera House and associated halls during the school holidays. Entries included a number from as far afield as Christchurch and Ashburton, and the standard throughout was high.

This year the final demonstration concert saw a change in the method of presentations. Instead of these being made individually, the curtain rose after the interval to reveal all the trophy winners massed on stage, making a most colourful picture.

Some of the Christchurch girls whose performance in the dancing classes was much admireed. This group, from the Pauline Leatham Studio, won the Popular Song and Ballet with their number, "Every Street's a Boulevard".
