Large picture at left, loaned by Museum, shows beach before the "cut" was made. Picture was taken in 1919 and first plane ever to land in Gisborne can be seen on beach. There's a big crowd in the water, too.

Waikanae Beach In The Good Old Days

This issue of "Photo News" features Waikanae Beach in a number of ways—in our colour covers, in the pictures taken at the National Surf Championships, and so on. So to complete the picture, we gathered up a few old prints of Waikanae as she was.
