Still no "old man" flood has come down the Waipaoa River to test out the diversion cut at Matawhero Bridge, but work goes on keeping it in good shape for when the time comes. Meanwhile soil is being removed from the vicinity for the new highway at the Te Arai bridge, at Manutuke.

Flight Lieutenant Wallace Haig Woodgate Spencer, of Gisborne, a son of Mrs H. M. Spencer, 104 Ballance Street, who has been awarded the D.F.C. for distinguished service in the air over Malaya. Born and educated in Gisborne, Ft-Lieut. Spencer joined the RNZAF in 1940, He was the Duke of Edinburgh's personal helicopter pilot during the recent Royal visit to Singapore.

Highlight of a holiday spent at Rotorua by Mr and Mrs N. Summersby and their two sons, of Gisborne, was the landing of these two very fine trout, by Mrs Summersby and Ian. The fish were caught in Lake Okataina. Mrs Summersby's was 11½ 1b and Ian's was 8½1b.
