Survey work for Oil

Pictures on this page show seismic reflection survey work in progress in the vicinity of Gisborne as part of the oil exploration survey being carried out by the BP Shell and Todd Petroleum Development Ltd. organisation.

"Shot" is fired to produce shock waves which are reflected back to surface from underground rock layers and picked up by lines of microphones on the ground.
