Tanks on the Move
Watties, the canned and frozen food people, have decided to make extensions to their factory. But on the site of the new building there stood half a dozen big concrete tanks, each weighing 2 to 15 tons when empty, each capable of holding 10,000 gallons of water for an emergency supply in the dry season.
To move the tanks a few feet to a new site adjacent to the Turang-anui River, they had to be taken right round the block, one by one.
The big, top-heavy tanks swayed alarmingly on some of the more tortuous parts of the journey, but all made it safely.
