Mr W. H. Scott (Scottie), one of Ols-borne's well-known personalities, is retiring from public life on June 30.

Scottie was traffic inspector in Gisborne for 18 years, being the first traffic officer to be appointed by the Gisborne Borough Council. Later he was highways traffic inspector for the Cook, Waikohu, Matakaoa, Waiapu and Uawa counties. For the past 22 years he has been custodian and officer- in-charge of cleaners and messenger services for all Government Departments in Gisborne. Scottie is seen in these pictures in the doorway of the Government offices in Customhouse Street.
