Mr G. A. Smith, accountant at the bank of New Zealand (left), who has been promoted to manager at the bank's Opotiki branch.

His successor, Mr J. W. Reynolds, who comes from the bank's North End branch in Wellington, where he was assistant accountant.

Mr L. T. Burnard, who was honoured recently for his long service to education in Gisborne. He has been a member of the High School Board since 1919, and has been chairman since 1926, A presentation was made to Mr Barnard on behalf of the board by Mr F. W. Nolan, who also has exceptionally long service.

Warm tributes were paid at the annual meeting of the Poverty Bay Golf Club to Mr E. R. Black on his retirement from the position of president.

His successor is Mr J. O. Musgrave.

The dux winners of Gisborne's High Schools. Ian Barker, son of Mr and Mrs L. Barker, Bayly St. Ian also won the Rhinesmith Memorial Prize, the Rotary Cup Essay Competition, and a University bursary.

Diane Webster, daughter of Mr and Mrs A. J. C. Webster, of Haronga Road. Diane also won a University bursary.
