"Teen-and-Twenty" Club

An interesting experiment is going on at the Y.M.C.A. hall in Gisborne these days. For an evening each week the premises are made available to an organisation known as the "Teen and Twenties Club," an independent organisation of young people who think highly of entertainers like Johnny Devlin, enjoy rock-n-roll, and in other circumstances would be most unlikely to be found inside a Y.M.C.A. building.

There, the young folk are encouraged to let off steam along directed channels, playing games, lifting weights, dancing, and so on. The Y.M.C.A. is not responsible for the operation of the club, but it does direct what activities are indulged in, and its influence for good is indirectly at work among the young folk.

In the words of one young member: "I like it there", he said. "It's somewhere to go and meet people and have fun".

In many ways rock-n-roll bears a strong resemblance to the old-time square dances--this could be a movement from the lancers.
