The biggest thrills for the gallery came from six birdie holes and Player's staggering 310yd drive at the eighth.

Final scores for the round were: Player 71, Thomas 73.

Both top-ranking golfers, David Thomas has already played at Awapuni - with Peter Thomson. Gary Player's unusual style, peculiar to himself, contrasted with Thomas's more orthodix technique.
