Extensive survey operations are at present in progress along the whole length of the vast Motu River, from its source in the Raukumara Ranges, to the mouth at Houpotu, some 30 miles from Opotiki.
Depending on the outcome of this survey, the Motu River could be a rich source of vitally needed hydro-electic power for the North Island.
