Disastrous Fire at Te Araroa

An ironic and horrifying sequel to the opening of the new hotel at Te Araroa, which replaces the building destroyed by fire a few years back, was a sudden blaze which completely razed a block of three shops in Te Araroa's main street recently.

The nearest fire brigade had nearly 30 miles to travel from Ruatoria. In the interim a well organised "bucket brigade", comprised of local citizens, did all they could to bring the flames under control.

The combination of "bucket brigade" and Ruatoria Fire Brigade did manage to confine the fire, which could have easily destroyed the whole area.
