Trial By Night

A dark moonless night, a lonely back road. A muffled figure on the roadside waves an oncoming car to a halt. Something about his manner suggests he has no intention of "hitching a ride". He is certainly not a traffic officer. Could he, then, be a modern-day highwayman? No, nothing so romantic. He was manning one of the intermediate check-points over the course of the Gisborne Car Club's recent night trial.
