It was also noticed with small chips of the whalemeat which had broken off and thawed in the sun, that they looked surprisingly like pieces of a nice juicy steak.

Workman holds up frozen whalemeat slab. Watersiders observed that the muslin covered slabs had little smell but were greasy to handle.

Whalemeat was shipped to Gisborne on the M. V. Kuaka, a OO ton insulated vessel of the Richardson Line, a regular visitor to Gisborne.
