Chatham Cup Hopes Dashed

For the second time in three years, Gisborne's Eastern Union Soccer team lost their Chatham Cup chances to Auckland's Eastern Suburbs, with a decisive score of three-nil. Despite everything captain Ken Armstrong tried, including bringing his backs up to supplement an all-out forward attack, Suburbs' defence was too strong.

Dave Waugh and Ken Armstrong made repeated attempts to break through without luck.

"Not much use to us now", said goalie Ron Leakey, as he walked off with Union's in-goal mascot.

Winger Benge and Leakey could do nothing to save this goal by Suburbs.
