Pictures from the Past

When the new superintendent of the Gisborne Fire Brigade, Mr E. C. Smith, takes up his appointment at the beginning of September he will be the fourth to fill that position in 74 years.

The long service of superintendents and other brigade officers gives interest to the pictures on this page, in one of which the retiring superintendent, Mr J. W. Kane, is seen as a junior foreman. He has been super. since 1919.

(Pictures from Mr S. Ledger, a long–service member of the brigade).
