Joan Todd, Helen Todd, and Jennifer McCormick, who were the finalists in the Gisborne Rotary Club's oratory contest. The winner was Helen Todd, who spoke on the work of Abraham Lincoln. Joan spoke on the life of Te Kooti Kikirangi, and Jennifer on the famous American woman athlete, Mildred Didrickson Zaharias.

Nurse Edith Hjorring, daughter of Mr and Mrs E. J. Hjorring, Totara Street, who has passed her junior State examination in nursing. She is at present serving in Green Lane Hospital in Auckland

On the occasion of her retirement from the position of cook at St. Helen's Hospital, Gisborne, after ten years' service in that position, Mrs A. Sweeny, 22 Northcote Road, was the guest at a surprise party of members of the staff of St. Helen's, when she was presented with a brush and comb set in appreciation of her work. Mrs Sweeny, in floral dress, is seen seated in centre of group.
