Two of Gisborne's banks are at present undergoing major reconstruction work. At left, Bank of New Zealand premises in Gladstone Road, are being almost completely rebuilt. Solid brick front has been removed in recent weeks. At right building behind Bank of New South Wales on corner of Gladstone Road and Peel Street is being modernised and added to the bank building to provide more room.

How's this for a "whopper"? Blue tuna estimated at over 2001bs was discovered in shallow water at Wainui Beach by Christopher Suttor and Timothy Barns–Graham, still alive but in a poor way. Standing with it here is Richard Suttor, aged four.
