Play festival

Nine plays were entered this year in the annual drama festival of the Conntry Women's Institutes, held in the Opera House this month.
Winner of the Otoko Cup for the best play, and also the McIldowie Cup for the best non-institute play, was the Gisborne Little Theatre's group presenting "The High-Backed Chair". Members, Cushla Roache (prompt), Beatrice Wilcox, Mary Moles (member of the cast and also co-producer), Joyce Moles, Harold Dover, and Beatrice Hunter (co-producer).

Winners of the Herald Cup for the best Institute play were these members of the Makaraka-Matawhero W.I. who staged "The Frozen Heart". Vera Peddle, Barbara Bell, Ngaire Rice, Ann Sands, and Elva Langford.
