Fire Eater

To give a lift to an audience, magic these days must combine elements of showmanship with spectacular acts designed to make blase spectators sit up in their seats. The days are gone when it was enough to pull handkerchiefs out of hats or juggle with packs of playing cards.

One young Gisborne magician, Michael Chamberlain, is making this transition with marked success. Of recent times he has added to his repertoire such items as escaping from a strait-jacket (see pictures in this issue) and fire-eating. On this page and on the cover, pictures show just how startling this can be.
