Midnight On The Clock

'Twas midnight in the main street, December 31, 1956. As the old year faded away, a pipe band appeared, a crowd gathered, and the familiar strains of Auld Lang Syne rose on the night air. Midnight is not a good time for taking pictures, especially midnight on New Year's Eve, but these serve to record the birth of 1957 as it was by the clock tower in Gladstone Road. Some hundreds of people joined in the singing, dancing, and general merriment while the clock ticked away the first half-hour of the new year.
