Whales don't often come ashore here but when they do the problem is how to get rid of them. This one, which died at sea, was washed up at Kaiti. To dispose of it

A big fire was built around the carcase, but this was not entirely successful, and in the end the remains had to be buried.

The first all-steel bus built in Gisborne was this one, completed recently by McCullough's, for the Wairoa-Rauponga run. In the picture are the owner, Mr Major Marshall, and Mr Jim McCullough.

How To Enjoy The Sports. Not everybody who goes to the athletics at the Childers Road Reserve wants to watch Norman Read, or Murray Halberg, or Valerie Sloper. The green sward at the reserve might be in first-class condition for record-breaking, but, this picture seems to suggest, it is also in good nick for a nice long laze in the sun.
