Middle-East Volunteers

Despite Colonel Nasser's objection to any inclusion of New Zealand troops in the United Nations' Middle East "police" force, Gisborne's 18 volunteers went through medical and dental checks recently. But there was still uncertainty as to whether they would be needed.
