Mr Apple!
May of this year was National Apple Month and Mister Apple from the Apple and Pear Marketing Board visited Gisborne to publicise his namesake. Give-aways, including apples, were part of the scene as Mister Apple made his appearances.

A competition for the best retail apple display was held throughout the district and judges John Hudson (front), John Corson and Harry Bennett view the photographic entries. Local firms to gain placings were Pang Chan Ltd (3rd in the Fruiterer's sectionl), and Openshaw's (2nd) and Gisborne Sheepfarmers (3rd) in the Supermarket section.
