Up And Coming

Cricket at junior level has been receiving a great boost in the last couple of seasons with more and more boys taking an interest in the game. At both the Oval and theHarry Barker Reserve some hundreds of young cricketers turn up like clockwork for their Saturday morning games which, very sensibly, are under no duress as far as competitions are concerned. It is the game that counts.

From left, Gary Muir, David White and David Ngataiz were the three Gisborne boys selected for the Northern Districts Under-14 trials at Hamilton earlier this year and also for the New Zealand Tournament there at Easter.

The Under-14 Poverty Bay Rep. Team scored 113 runs against Hawke's Bay's 108 to win the Holt Cup and inflict upon Hawke's Bay their first defeat for the cup in three years.
