Last Breakup

Nineteen-seventy-four saw the last end-of-year break-up for the Central School. As from the second term of this year the school will cease to operate. A new school in Whataupoko is due for use from then on. The Central School, which celebrated its centenary just on three years ago, has been operating since 1872. The present building, which the school is due to vacate, was opened on October 8, 1906, the previous building on the same site being destroyed by fire on December 26,1904.
