Family Learning

A total of 100 parents and children attended the Family Weekend held on the Whakato Marae, Manutuke, on July 6 and 7. The weekend was organised by the P.B. Playcentre Sub-association and included lectures on Maori-tanga, Maori life and customs, as well as the practical experience of living on the marae over the two days. The weekend commenced with a strictly traditional welcome to the marae.

At the weekend school the opportunity was taken to present Mrs Margaret Duke with an association certificate. This was presented by Mrs Bev Hughes (right). Also pictured are Mr Ralph Duke with Roger and Linda. The Dukes are leaving the district to live in Auckland. Mrs Duke, who has been closely associated with the playcentre movement in Gisborne over the last 12 years, has been president of the association for the past year.
