Poverty Bay's Takitimu Maori Rugby team lost possession of the Maori Battalion & Tainui Cups in a mid-week match recently.

But it was no easy victory for the Ngati Kahungungu players who took the cups home to Hawke's Bay.

A magnificent second-half effort almost won the day for the local team. Ngati Kahungungu held on, however, winning 17-14.

Despite wet weather, the game was exciting and fast.
