Meow!

Some of the best feline talent in the district was on display at the St. John Ambulance Hall this month when the newly-formed Gisborne Cat Club held its first pet parade.

There were big cats and little cats, thoroughbreds and others, pure blacks and silver greys, tortoise-shells, and tabbies—so many, in fact, that there was hardly enough room left to swing one.

The winner, a pure black cat from St. Helen's Hospital, exhibited here by little Niki Searancke, took award for best cat in the show.

Best kitten, here held by the Mayor, Mr Barker, was entered by Dorothy Cooper (next to the Mayor). At left is the Cat Club president, Mr F. A. Herkt.

The Cat Club is expecting a visit on June 13 from Miss Kathleen Yorke, a famous English judge of the cat fancy, who is scheduled to give a lecture to local cat lovers and demonstrate with various breeds.

Both Mr Herkt and the club secretary, Mrs A. F. Baker are Siamese cat fanciers. Mr Herkt is holding his imported English seal-pointed Siamese male cat, "Lindisfarne Sylvesta of Inesfree". Mrs Baker is holding her 6-months-old female Siamese, "Winsome Lady".

James Thompson's entry shared short-haired class award with Niki Searancke's Monty.

(2) Jimmy Mickie, co-winner short-haired kitten;

(3) Pamela Cumming, co-winner long-haired adult.
