Wonderful Gesture

A wonderful gesture has been made by the army mates of the late Clive Koia. Clive was serving with B Company, 1 R.N.Z.I.R., in Singapore, when he died quite suddenly last year. B Company subscribed together and have donated a handsome cup for a competition (which has yet to be decided) in memory of Clive. The company has also sent a memorial plaque which will be hung in the Garrison Club at the Army Hall.

Clive Koia was born and bred in Tolaga Bay. He quickly established himself in his chosen career as after doing his national service in May 1971 (where he gained the award for the best infantry all-rounder) he joined the Regular Army in July of that year. In May, 1972, with B Company, he went to Singapore. He was a key man in the rifle section, a member of the company 1st XV, and in the cross-country team — apart from being a soldier of the first order.
