Dr J. H. D. Millar, M.D., F.R.C.P. (London), M.R.C.P. (Ireland), a leading United Kingdom neurologist, lectured to members of the medical profession in Gisborne during the course of a New Zealand lecture tour recently. He specialises in research for the cause and cure of multiple sclerosis, a muscular crippling disease for which there is still no cure.

A foundation meeting to form the Poverty Bay Branch of the Navy League was held at Low's Reception Rooms and attended by nearly 50 people. A steering committee was formed to set up the branch. From left are Messrs John Pheloung (Gisborne Naval Relations Officer), meeting chairman Mayor Harry Barker, minutes' secretary Doug Dyer and guest speaker Colin Dean, who is the national secretary of the Navy League.
