Meanwhile Mr and Mrs Nicoll's son, Dr Alan Nicol is one of a New Zealand medical team of four which has gone to Ethiopia to run relief clinics for those in the famine striken areas. The clinics will be held under canvas and transport will be mostly by Landrover. Dr Nicoli, who has just completed an appointment with the Wellington Hospital Board as house surgeon, was educated at Gisborne Boys High School and qualified in medicine at Otago in 1971.

Chief Inspector J. W. McGuire was a recipient of the Queen's Police Medal at the Royal Investiture held in Wellington during the recent Royal visit. Mr McGuire, who is offier in charge of the Gisborne district, has been with the Police Department for 25 years. Before coming to Gisborne he was stationed in Wellington. Chief Inspector McGuire would be be the youngest police officer to ever receive the medal, which is very sparingly given and, incidentally, the highest award ever given in the Police Department.
